For most of us, houseplants are simply home decor. But observant women who enjoy growing flowers will tell you that’s not quite true. After all, a houseplant can become a true family talisman and bring happiness to the home.

Spathiphyllum (“Women’s Happiness”)

This perennial plant is native to the remote forests of South America. Growing it is easy. Just be sure to mist it daily and repot it in fresh soil in the spring.
It is believed that during its flowering period, the spathiphyllum brings family well-being to a woman’s home. Singles find their soul mates, and unmarried couples don their long-awaited wedding dress. Happiness awaits even those already married; all quarrels disappear, and mutual understanding returns. A woman dreaming of becoming a mother learns of an imminent addition to the family. Those who dream should have the “Women’s Happiness” flower; many have already experienced the superstitions and its magical properties. However, they say the plant should be given as a gift, so now’s the time to visit friends who own this wonderful flower in the hopes of receiving a “gift.”
Often, homeowners are unaware that a true “Women’s Happiness” flower lives in their home, yet this plant requires a different approach than other flowers. Its magical properties will only unfold if you surround it with care and warmth.

Saintpaulia (Uzambara violet)

Violets, as we know, love careful care; they require plenty of light and do not tolerate hard water. Nevertheless, this capricious beauty is very popular.
Peace and harmony reign in a home where violets grow. A Saintpaulia blooming profusely in the home helps to smooth over family conflicts and creates harmony. There’s also a superstition that this amazing flower brings prosperity and well-being.

Hibiscus (Chinese rose)

Hibiscus requires warmth, as it’s native to the tropics, but not more than 35 degrees Celsius. Legend has it that this shrub is an indicator of happiness and well-being in the home. A blooming rose foretells many happy events—imminent weddings, the birth of children, and the rekindling of long-lost feelings.

Myrtle

The word “myrtle” translates from Greek as “balm.” This evergreen shrub blooms with small white flowers. It has healing properties. Myrtle symbolizes fertility, purity, the beginning of a new life, rebirth, eternal love, youth, joy, glory, and success. Myrtle is believed to bring happiness and peace to an established family and makes a successful marriage. In some countries, this plant is even considered the best gift for newlyweds.

Aichryson (“Tree of Love,” “Tree of Happiness”) Perhaps the aichryson received this nickname because of its heart-shaped leaves. Others believe it simply brought happiness and love to families who cared for it well.
It is believed that aichryson blooms only in a home filled with love. If your plant is withering and dropping leaves profusely, it’s time to think about the emotional comfort of your family and, of course, your guests.

Calathea

This houseplant with beautiful patterned leaves is native to America. It is believed that calathea helps in family life because it symbolizes domestic happiness. With the help of calathea, timid, hesitant, and suspicious people can become more self-confident, understand what they want from life, and find inner strength and core.
In a home decorated according to the principles of Feng Shui, calathea is a very useful addition, especially for a large family. This plant is capable of absorbing aggressive energy, allowing household members to set reasonable goals in life, find interesting activities and passions, and achieve all of this without hindrance or conflict. Communication and celebrations in a home with a calathea will always be lively, cheerful, and positive.

Many people believe that having oxalis in the home protects the family from quarrels and misunderstandings. Furthermore, in some countries, oxalis is associated with good luck and fortune, so this plant is given to relatives and friends for celebrations or housewarmings. In Ireland, the three-part leaves have special significance, so oxalis is revered and treasured there.
