The conflict between Iran and Israel has reached a new and dangerous level, with reports that a massive missile attack by Iran last night (March 21) has caused severe damage to southern Israel.
Background and current situation of the Middle East crisis
Iran and Israel have been at odds for decades. Iran supports the Palestinian Hamas organization in the region and the Lebanese Hezbollah organization, which Israel considers a threat to its national security. Iran has launched this series of missile attacks in response to a recent attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria. The most dangerous situation here is that some Iranian missiles have even managed to overcome Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ and other systems, which are considered the most advanced air defense system in the world.
Severe attacks on the cities of Arad and Dimona
The southern cities of Arad and Dimona were the most affected by this attack.
About 10 apartment complexes in the center of Arad were hit by shrapnel, injuring between 64 and 84 people.
A ballistic missile directly hit a residential area in the city of Dimona, creating a large crater and shattering the glass of surrounding buildings. It is said that between 33 and 47 people were injured.
Is the nuclear center in danger?
The world was paying close attention to the fact that Israel’s main nuclear research center (Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center) is located near the city of Dimona. However, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that the facility was not damaged and no radiation was released.
Injuries and medical reports
According to the Israeli Ministry of Health, about 150 people have been hospitalized.
Serious condition: 10 people, including two young children, are in critical condition.
Minor injuries: More than 120 people have been injured from glass fragments and accidents while running to safety.
Psychological trauma: Many more people are seeking medical help due to the severe shock and fear caused by the attack.
The capital Tel Aviv and the northern regions were also hit, but the damage was relatively minor. However, Iran says that its target was fuel tanks at Ben Gurion Airport.
